The Ottawa Senators started their practice by gathering at centre ice and performing a stick salute for 580 CFRA technical producer and loyal fan Brian Fraser who passed away after a two-year battle with leukemia.
Eugene Melnyk would love to see fans back in the seats at the Canadian Tire Centre. And, the Ottawa Senators’ owner is hopeful someday soon that will be the case.
After one of the longest off-seasons in the history of the club, the Senators were thrilled to hear Sunday afternoon the NHL’s board of governors approved the Return to Play plan to start the season Jan. 13 that was agreed to with the NHL Players’ Association Friday night.
“We’re well-positioned. We’ve done a lot of the work and it’s time to start seeing the beginnings of the results,” Melnyk told Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.
"This is the team, with what we have right now, I believe can win a Stanley Cup already, and that's without adding some veterans, which we plan to do."
When it comes to news on what may or may not be happening along the way to a potential National Hockey League restart, fans will take anything they can get. So, give Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk some credit.
